In Robert Icke‘s contemporary retelling, Oedipus is a man with a great future, a politician with a good chance of becoming prime minister, who promises his voters full transparency. No more cover-ups, even old files will be reopened. In this play set on election night, an ambitious man on the verge of victory is confronted with the realisation that nothing is what it seems – neither in politics nor in his private life. In the maze of political games, abuses of power and family secrets, Oedipus, who had everything, in a few hours loses it all, in search of justice.
